Answered: Motors

I have concern about motors . Firstly , my school have lot of spoiled motors. Our 393 motors and some of 2-wired 269 motors were “stiff” and was not functioning as fast and efficient as others so my teacher tried add grease into the gears , not knowing the side effects. After adding the grease , it work better , however the motors would short circuit itself . Now we have tons of not working motors , that are really really really stiff. Was it because of our grease ? Is there any way to “unstiffen” the motors ?Secondly , we have motors that can spin in one direction well but cannot spin in the other direction as fast. We do have concern over the motors as our school have spent a large amount of money from this motors . Are there any methods to solve this motors ? And my school also found out that motors wire get loose really fast.
The wire connecting to the motor itself tend to slip out. It would be a great help if someone is able to help us and clarify this

Thanks

larhal,

This is very strange, did you add grease or oil?
Adding a little bit of grease on the gears should not short out the motor. How “stiff” were the motors, were you able to turn them manually? Were you able to make them turn with the microcontroller?

It’s actually normal for a VEX motor to spin faster in one direction as opposed to the other; however, the difference should not be that noticeable.

The wires in your motors should not get loose and just slip out. All of our products have a 90-Day Warranty, if those motors are still under warranty you could send them back to us through the RMA process and have them repaired.
Sorry about the inconvenience.
Thanks.

We added grease , which was bought from the USA , when we were attending worlds. I would say that we are able to turn them manually , however we had to apply much more force than a normal working motor. When working with the microcontroller , some would basically not react while others do spin. And the difference of it spinning in different direction is very obvious. It like when we are spinning a high speed in 1 direction and a high strength in the other . That great difference.

Sadly those motor that are spoiled are over their warranty as they have been bought since last year. We did get 269 motor changed last year during round up world’s at orlando . The creator of 269 could not explain why our motor was “stuck” and “stiff” even though the gears are still in 1 piece. But we did not manage to bring all motor there as we live far away .
Hopefully your can find a solution to this
Thanks

larhal,

Do all your motors have the same problem?

How many motors are “stiff”?

How many motors drive slower in one direction?

How many motors have damaged wires?

Can i get back to you on maybe October the 10th ?
I will go find out and post videos for you

Not a problem.
Thanks for your cooperation.

As promise the video of the motor.
In the video , you will see 1 269 and 7 393.
6 of the 393 are not working as you can see and
269 is very rough , or what i said as stiffen , how this help
