Answered: Moving Opponents Mobile Goals

Can someone clarify something for me (I’m sure has been clarified before and I just couldn’t find it)?

Our team was at an event a couple of weeks back and of course it was the game that if you won, your alliance moved onto the finals. The opposing alliance would play their game just like other groups do (stacking cones on mobile goals and then moving goals to their 5,10,20pt areas) then suddenly come to our side and remove our mobile goals out of the 5pt zones.

Of course it led to our alliance losing the match and being knocked out of the tournament. My question is: Is that strategy legal? I know of the rule that you cannot remove cones from mobile goals once stacked but is there a rule in writing concerning the mobile goals and I had overlooked it?

The officials at this event were “subpar” and appeared as if they had been given a very quick crash course training on how to score earlier that morning. When asked if it was legal or not by myself, other students, and mentors of the other teams in our alliance, the ref replied “I honestly do not know, I’m just helping run the event”. I do not like bashing officials or event partners and I don’t want to sound sour about the situation. I (as well as my students) would like to have some 3rd party light shown on the situation.

Thanks again everyone!
