I have looked at the other threads about pain on robot but they say that pictures of the robot would be better than just a description. I have some pictures of one of our robots that was painted and then they saw the rule about paint. They painted the robot after they qualified for worlds. If only parts of it are illegal can you say which ones. We will recreate the bot if we have to but of course we would rather not.
The inspectors at your event will make the final ruling on this, as it is difficult to tell from looking at these pictures. That being said, I would be very careful about having any paint covered surface which contacts a ball.
