Answered: Painted surfaces?

It seems as though rule R7 has become much more specific this time around. As such, I’d like to confirm whether or not a design such as the one bellow would be legal or illegal as per rule R7-D-i or

“d. Teams may add non-functional decorations provided that these do not affect the robot
performance in any significant way or affect the outcome of the match. These decorations must
be in the spirit of the competition. Inspectors will have final say in what is considered “nonfunctional”.
i. Any decoration which interacts with a game piece **(even a painted surface) **would be
considered functional, hence illegal”

Thanks in advance.

Based on the above picture, it looks as though the tank treads have additional material not from the VEX Robotics Design System. If that additional white material interacts with a game piece, it would be considered to be illegal under . Of course this is based on an analysis of the photograph provided. It is impossible to give a concrete ruling on a specific robot design question of this type without inspecting robot directly.
