I know there has been some discussion on where to return balls if they leave the field, but I’m wondering where they should be returned to if the ball was last on the barrier. Does it go back on the barrier? Or to one of the zones? If so, which one?

Basically, the Scoring Object goes back to the Zone where the Robot that knocked it was located.
