Answered: Programming Skills, can sensors be added that are not used in competition?

My kids want to attach a touch/bump sensor to their robot so it will do better in Programming Skills, however I think the sensor would easily get ripped off during a normal competition involving other robots. Is it legal to bolt on a sensor system intended just for the Programming Skills when they normally would not use that sensor during a match with other 'bots?

What they want to add is something like a finger that can sense the rail and walls, but it sticks out so much, I’m guessing it wouldn’t last 20 seconds in a real match.

Hi FullMetalMentor,
It seems like you’re looking for an official ruling from the VRC GDC. As such, I’ve moved your thread into the VEX Robotics Competition Toss Up Official Q&A, since this is the only place you can receive official answers to your questions.

Please let me know if this isn’t what you wanted. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

Yes, this would be legal, provided that the Robot is inspected in both configurations; with and without the additional sensor system.

Thanks. I know they will be happy to hear that.

You’re welcome!
