Answered: R7-c Clarification

R7 (allowed non-VEX parts) section c says we can use: “Any commercially available #4, #6, #8, M2, M2.5, M3 or M4 screw up to 2” long, and any commercially available nut and/or washer to fit these screws."

I’m wondering if “Commercially available” means that the screws must be obtained through a retailer, or if a 3D print of the allowed screw would be a legal part.
Would it be legal to 3D print and use any #4, #6, #8, M2, M2.5, M3 or M4 screw up to 2" long on my robot to reduce weight?

Yes, “commercially available” means purchased from a commercial source that is available to all teams. Homemade 3D printed parts are not considered “commercially available”. Functional 3D printed parts are not allowed in the middle and high school levels of the VEX Robotics Competition. A 3D printed screw is not identical to a legal VEX screw due to differences in material type, strength, etc.
