Couple of a tournaments we participated, the inspectors used a “colored zip tie label” to indicated the robot passed inspection and zipped it around a bunch of cables/wire connected to the brain. First, I didn’t like the idea, in the event that the team need to change the cable in the event of a failure they would need to cut the zip-tie and have to be re-inspected in hope that the inspection station has not close as they usually do at the beginning of the tournament. But it is also a welcoming idea, if this was permitted, the team should be able to use zip ties to dress up the cables connecting into the brain since it is “non-functional decorations that do not affect the Robot performance in any significant way or affect the outcome of the Match”. Would this be a correct assumption?
No, this would not be legal. Using a zip tie or other cable management solution not offered in VEX IQ for the purpose of organizing cables would be considered functional.
