Does the Ring labeled R5 on top of the support structure for the Horizontal Post count as Scored on the Horizontal Post?
Part of the Horizontal Post is within the volume defined by the outer edges of the Ring labeled R5.
Let’s take a look at the definition of Horizontal Post:
Horizontal Post – One of the two (2) pairs of horizontal posts consisting of VEX IQ pieces attached to the field and supporting structures with a diameter of approximately 1” (25 mm), starting height of 8” (203 mm) and 14” (356 mm), and overall length of 4” (108 mm).
And the full definition of Scored, with a portion bolded for emphasis:
A Ring is Scored if it is not touching a Robot and meets one of the following criteria:
- The Ring is contacting the Floor Goal
- Any part of a Post is within the volume defined by the outer edges of the Ring (i.e.** part of the Ring is encircling or surrounding the Post**).
The PVC pipe and associated vertical VEX IQ parts are considered “supporting structure” for the Horizontal Posts. The Horizontal Post only includes the yellow horizontal standoffs. No part of the Ring is encircling or surrounding the yellow standoffs. Thus, the ring labeled R5 that you are referencing would not count as Scored.
