In this forum post, you say that it is okay to melt or fuse two ends of rope together. Wouldn’t this be illegal because this method of fastening is not provided by the VEX system?

Rule <R15> part b:

Welding, soldering, brazing, gluing, or attaching in any way that is not provided within the VEX Robotics Design System will NOT be allowed.

Good catch. You are correct. Earlier this season we allowed melting of rope to recombine strands to prevent fraying. However we did not allow the melting of rope to fuse separate pieces together. The previous answer that you linked to will be edited.
