Answered: Robot Ball Density Inconsistencies

As you may have noticed, there has been a lot of buzz about the inconsistencies of the masses, and densities of the balls. One forum user even said that it varied the distance the ball went from 20 to 5 feet. Also the mass of the balls is said to vary from 43 grams to 52 grams. I was wondering if this is going to be true or not in the final game pieces. Sorry if this isn’t the right place to post this.

We are aware aware of the variance in the balls. We’ve done an intensive investigation of our inventory and have changed the published weight tolerance on the balls.

On June 15th we updated the VRC Nothing But Net Game Manual to state:

Thus this is the expected range we expect the balls to fall into, with most being closer to 0.115 lbs. Teams should design around this range.
