Answered: "Scored" Mobile Goal

We had a competition over the weekend, where there was an odd occurrence of ‘scored’ mobile goal. I’ve attached a photo (albeit blury) to look to see if this meets the criteria.

Per the game manual:

Scored – A Mobile Goal is Scored in a Goal Zone if it meets all of the following criteria:

1. The Mobile Goal is touching the Goal Zone
   a. If a Mobile Goal is touching multiple Goal Zones it is Scored in the higher point value
   Goal Zone
2. The Mobile Goal is not touching a Robot of the same color Alliance.
3. The Mobile Goal and the Goal Zone belong to the same Alliance.
   Note 1: Only one Mobile Goal can be Scored in each 20 Point Zone.
   Note 2: If multiple Mobile Goals are in a scored position in a 20 Point Zone, the Mobile Goal with
   the most Cones Stacked will be the one that is Scored.
   Note 3: If a Mobile Goal is not touching a Zone, but is entirely Supported by other Scoring
   Objects it counts as being Scored in the highest value Scoring Zone of the Supporting Scoring
   Objects.

The situation: During autonomous, a robot on the red alliance did a ‘block’ maneuver in order to disrupt the blue alliance robot from their autonomous routine. The robot traversed the field blocking the other alliance until they (both 1 red and 1 blue robot) traveled to the 5 POINT goal zone. The remaining BLUE robot continued its routine and resulting, dropped their Mobile Goal with stacked preload onto the RED (blocking) robot.

Upon ruling from the team of referees, it was ruled that although scored on the opposing robot, it was still constituted as scored. Their reasoning was that:

“If a mobile goal is scored in the 10, and ANOTHER is scored in the 10 but fully supported on the 5 point bar and the ALREADY scored mobile goal… it counts as the 5 point goal zone”

and this scenario should similarly be applied. However, this seems to not meet all the criteria of a ‘scored’ mobile goal (i.e. NOT touching the goal zone). Can you please shed some more light into the definition of a scored mobile goal?

Please remember that referee rulings at an event are considered final, and that the GDC cannot formally rule upon or overturn referee decisions after the fact.

In general, a Mobile Goal must either be contacting a Goal Zone or entirely supported by other Scoring Objects in order to be considered Scored in a Scoring Zone.
