Answered: SG6 - removing scored cubes

Karthik,

This question was sort of asked, but the question was a bit unclear, so the answer was not given to what I think the person was asking.

In this video Menasha VEX Challenge Finals Match Two: VEX Skyri - YouTube

at the 2:21 mark you will see a blue cube scored on the low post in the lower left side of the video. A red alliance robot moves the cube from being at the bottom of the post to a position capping the post and then de-scores the cube.

The question is if it is illegal for the red alliance robot to move a cube that is illegal to be de-scored up to a position where it can be de-scored and then can it be de-scored?

An additional question is, assuming this is not a legal strategy, should the ref stop this action while the robot is moving the cube up the post and if it happens too quickly to stop it, should the ref put the cube back down on the post the way it was before the illegal action?

I am hoping that the video works and if not, the explanation is enough to understand what happened.

This would be a violation of <SG6>. Once a Cube is in a position where it is illegal to remove as per <SG6>, it cannot be legally removed from a Post, even if the Cube is moved into a position where it would normally be legal to remove. This previously asked Q&A has more details.

No, referees should never modify the state of the field during a match, except for reasons of safety, or to return Scoring Objects that have exited the field of play.
