Answered: SG9 violation in autonomous period clarification

I found this old post where someone asked about what happens when a robot breaks the opponent’s white boundary line. The description indicates that if the violation is not autonomous result affecting, it scored normally. If it is, then the bonus goes to the other team. You go on to mention that only if the viloation is match affecting, does it result in a DQ.

My question is that sometimes autonomous points can win a match and how would we know at the end of auto if the violation is match affecting? Is it as simple as a violation over the white line always results in the other team getting the bonus?

Look at the copy of the referenced post below:

"In autonomous, a robot moved forward to the fence and it ended up with its base going through to the other side and touched the edge of the scoring zone on the other side. How should this be handled or scored?

Let’s take a look at the applicable rules from the VEX Robotics Comeptition Starstruck Game Manual. I’ve bolded some text for emphasis:

VEX Robotics Competition Starstruck Game Manual <SG6> Robots may not make contact with the foam tiles in their own Zones. (i.e. Robots may not contact the Zones across the fence from their Alliance Station) Minor violations of this rule that do not affect the match will result in a warning. Egregious (match affecting) offenses will result in a Disqualification. Teams that receive multiple warnings may also receive a Disqualification at the head referee’s discretion.

A minor offense that does not affect the final result of the Match or the result of the Autonomous Period would result in a simple warning.

VEX Robotics Competition Starstruck Game Manual <SG9> Any fouls committed during the Autonomous Period that do not affect the final outcome of the match, but do affect the outcome of the Autonomous Bonus, will result in the Autonomous Bonus being automatically awarded to the opposing Alliance.

An offense that does not affect the final outcome of the match, but does affect the outcome of the Autonomous Bonus, would lead to your opponent automatically winning the Autonomous Bonus.

An offense that does affect the final outcome of the match would result in a DQ."

In situations like this, the referees would make this determination after Match, not at the end of Autonomous.
