When our team is placing its preload for a match can the star touch the gray tile connecters that interlace with the red and blue tile connectors. Or, is that zone considered off limits.

Let’s take a look at the definition of Preload from the VEX Robotics Comeptition Starstruck Game Manual. I’ve bolded some text for emphasis:

Preload – The four (4) Stars, one (1) for each team, that must be placed on the field such they are touching its Robot, not touching any grey foam tiles, and fully within the field perimeter prior to each Match.

As you can see, touching any grey foam tiles is prohibited. This includes the “connectors”.
