Answered: Timeout for a sizing check

During the finals of a competition this past weekend, the opposing team called for a sizing check against our alliance. We were forced to call our timeout while the judges conducted the sizing check. Later on, we definitely needed a timeout to make a small modification to our autonomous, but we couldn’t call one because we had to call one for the sizing check. Do teams usually have to call a timeout if the opposing alliance calls for a sizing check?

A couple of things.

  1. An Alliance may not “call” for a sizing check. Sizing checks are granted solely at the Head Referee’s discretion, and should be done rarely. Teams may request a sizing check from the Head Referee, but as I just said, the Head Referee should only be granting these in extreme cases.

  2. If the referees decided to perform a sizing check on a Robot, that Robot’s Team does not need to call a timeout.

Thanks Karthik!
