Answered: Updated: Match Load

<SG6> Any Scoring Objects introduced during the Match as Driver Control Loads must be either gently placed on a Robot of your own color touching the Loading Zone or gently entered into the Loading Zone of your own color, by a Student Drive Team Member, without breaking the plane of the field, during the Driver Controlled Period. The intent of this rule is to allow teams to introduce objects into play, but not to impart energy on the Scoring Object which will cause it to end up in a position outside the Loading Zone.

does this means that placing the driver control loads directly on to the loading zone will be a violation since a student drive team member can not break the plane of the field?

This ruling has been updated based on the June 15th manual update. Please see the updated post below for the current ruling.

This is correct. We expect Student Drive Team Members to load Robots or the Loading Zone by dropping or gently tossing balls into play. We understand that some momentary incursions of hands into the field will occur, however, in general we want to ensure that people aren’t sticking their hands into the field.

On June 15th we updated the VRC Nothing But Net Game Manual to make this legal.
