Answered: Use of ball density testing devices pre-match

Is it legal for a team to use a device to test the density of the balls before each match?

Provided that this is done in a prompt fashion, this would be allowed. That being said, if you plan on testing all 104 balls before the match, this is not something I would consider prompt. In addition, you will not be allowed to disrupt the balls on the field that are already placed in their appropriate spots.

Thank you for the prompt response. I was only considering testing my alliance’s 32 driver loads and preloads so it would not take any longer than 1 minute, which I’m assuming would be legal.

As long as you can do it promptly, without delaying the Match, this would be legal. The amount of time available would be up to the referee’s discretion, most likely based on the overall flow of the event.
