I and 5225A have been playing with the new ID plates a bit, and noticed that they may be difficult to mount on some designs of robots. Also, having to switch them between matches can take a lot of time, and clicking a new one on top of the other one is not always possible.
The rules state the following about the ID plates:
From this, I would expect that they can be mounted using parts that are not VEX parts, as long as these parts are solely non-functional, just like the plates themselves.
Pretty much, what I am trying to ask is if we can use other materials (i.e. VEX IQ parts in addition to pins, velcro, etc.) to mount and switch the ID plates, provided these materials are non-functional. This would allow teams to switch the plates very easily and quickly between matches, and would reduce the chance of matches being held up by teams fumbling to switch plates in queuing because they forgot, as unlike the flags these can be much harder to switch.
Okay, thanks Karthik. I was hoping this was allowed, but I can understand how they would be considered functional. There are some other ways to mount the plates that we’ve found as well, so we will have to use those.
