Can the Vex Part Color Camera
P/N: 276-2211 be used in competition? there is nothing on the web site to indicate this is a RCR component. it is listed with all the other VEX robotics parts.
Thanks - Kevin
Thanks very much!
The Vex website doesn’t confirm anything about the resolution of the camera.
Can you answer this question?
Im guessing something like 640x480 but hoping for more

^ This page says 0.3 Megapixels… (I know it’s not a pixel x pixel measure like you want, but it shows that it’s pretty low res…)

It’s not Hi Res, and not great in low light, but it is functional. I have a small Android based tablet that allows A/V recording which I use to display and record the robot eye’s view. Our team has never tried to use the camera in a competition, but it’s great for demonstrations. I’ve had students sit right in front of the video display and operate the robot purely by viewing the camera output vs. watching the robot as in a competition.
If your intent is to record the match from the robot eye view I would suggest a small portable video camera such as the Flip, or the Kodak version (they are legal this year). I can’t see any significant advantage to tele-op mode assisted by the camera for competition. There is no cpu interface for processing the image data in the cortex.
Hope this helps!
The gopro cameras are nice. The first version is like $200 but records in full hd. They also are very rugged and easy to mount.
Could you post the link of one on here? I would like to get one, but I don’t know which one you are talking about.
FYI there is a gopro hero 2, but it is a hundred dollars more expensive and I dont think that it does much more except maybe allows some of the newer backpacks.
Thank you. I am going to look into getting this for my new team.
Hopefully we can get enough money
