Answered: VRC Motor Casings and Motor Limit

Hello,

I have a question regarding the use of motor casings. Say you have 12 motors on a robot, but also have motor casings on a subsystem for the use of “quickswapping” (Just in case you didn’t know, quickswapping is when you zip-tie the motor casing and the motor together instead of using the black mounting screws. It is meant to save time and effort when switching motors). Would that count as having a “13th” motor even though it is just the casing of a motor and not an extra motor itself? If so, why?

No, this is not legal. Having an unused motor on the robot would cause unnecessary confusion for referees and inspectors, and using a portion of a motor in a non-functional manner would be considered a violation of R15a.
