So earlier in the season we had problems with my cortex, and in the end we had to upload a new software. Recently we were driving my bot to get ready for the next competition, when my team started experiencing difficulties creating and keeping a link between the cortex and controller. We have looked through the diagrams to try to dignose the problem, but we could not find anything that matched our problem. On the CORTEX we have no LED color for the robot, but we have a fresh battery in, solid green for VEXnet, and some times a flickering green for the game. On the CONTROLLER, it starts out like a normal start up where it searches for its other half. Than it connects for about a secon than the LEDs show green solid for controller, nothing for robot, solid red for VEXnet, and nothing for game. We are trying to figure out whats going on and what do we have to do to fix our problem.
Thanks,
SWAG

bigzack1,
This is strange…
Are you able to download code into the Cortex?
Do you have easyC or ROBOTC as your programming software?
-Eli
Eli,
We cannot connect enough to try to download code. We have ROTBOTC, and we have tried re-downloading firmware.

bigzack1,
First lets make sure you are running the latest version.
Please click on “Help” and then “Check for Updates”

bigzack1,
Please re-download Master Code and ROBOTC Firmware into Cortex and Joystick.
All you have to do is click on the following:
- Robot
- Download Firmware
- Automatically Update…

Eli,
We went to update the firmware, and a box came up and said everything is up to date. Now we have communication but now when we go to download program it says no communication link available.
Any suggestions on what to do?

Just like that we are back to the same problem as before. So either we have a link with no real communication, or no link at all.
bigzack1,
With your Cortex connected with the USB A-to-A cable to your PC, open Windows Device Manager and look under “Ports”
If your Cortex is being recognized by the PC, you will see listed “VEX Robotics Comm…”

Eli,
Yes, it is being reconized by the computer.

Eli,
We called Vex, and they made me download my code over the A to A cable. We can now connect my controller and cortex, but when we go to download code via the vex keys, we get whats pictured below.

3281a,
When downloading wireless, make sure you have the following:
- Green VEXnet LED on Cortex & Joystick (indicates a solid wireless connection)
- Hardware Programming Cable connected to “Programming” port on Joystick
- Windows XP/7 Prolific USB Driver installed properly.
- If using ROBOTC, please select “Cortex 2.0” under Platform and “VEXnet or USB” under VEX Cortex Communication Mode.
