Answered: What makes a robot the same

In the ruling from this thread:

You say that

What makes the Robot not the same?

In <R1> it says “if you are swapping out an entire subsystem of either item 1 or 2, you have now created a second robot and are no longer legal.”

So say you have two robots (A & B) , and two tournaments (#1 and #2). Robot A and Robot B compete at a tournament #1 and then swap cortex’s before Tournament #2 and they compete that day.

Do you now have a Robot C and D? or have robot A and B remained the same?

Basically where does the line get drawn?

Beyond the Subsystem definitions, we would advise inspectors and team members to utilize rule <G2> here: “When reading and applying the various rules in this document, please remember that common sense always applies in the VEX Robotics Competition.” If two robots can sit on a table next to each other as two separate robots, then they are two different robots. Changing one control system component is not considered a complete swap of the entire Subsystem 1.
