Answered: Wireless Communication at Competitions

I’ve always heard that you can’t use wifi at competitions but am unable to find this in the rules. I was wondering if this is allowed or if not, could you point me towards a ruling saying so. If it’s not allowed because 2.4 GHz wifi runs over the same frequency as VEXNet, could we use 5 GHz wifi instead as that is over a different frequency then VEXNet. I would like to use this to form a communication network between the different members of my team.

Thanks for the assistance

There is no specific rule against it, however it is very common for Event Partners to disallow the use of wireless networks at their events, especially 2.4 GHz networks. I recommend that you contact the events you plan on attending so you can plan accordingly.
