Hello, I am a robotics student who is soon to graduate high school and I was interested in continuing to participate in vex. I have been accepted and committed to a university, but for various reasons I will be taking a gap year. However, from what I can see from the game manual, in order to participate in high school V5RC I must be enrolled in high school (which I will have graduated from) and in order to participate in VURC I must be “matriculated in a post-secondary school.” If I am taking a gap year but have made the committment, does it count as being matriculated? If not, is there any way to participate in vex during a gap year, or am I locked out for a year?

Professionals not enrolled in post-secondary education are not eligible to participate on a VEX U Team.
I would think that this would cover your situation as you aren’t enrolled. Unless you “enroll” with a college, I think you can’t do Vex U. Otherwise, if you are already enrolled for the following year, that should allow you to participate.
Or you can consider getting involve as a mentor?
That part tripped me up a bit as well though just because it specified professionals - by professionals do they just mean anyone?
Also, sorry if this is a stupid question, but if I’m guaranteed to be attending school, just in 26-27 instead of 25-26, I guess that doesn’t count as enrolment?
I’m considering doing both.
Take a class at your local community college and you will be eligible for a VEX-U team. Either knock out one of your general ed classes and transfer it, usually numbered 151 or higher, or take some Hands-On class that will improve your talent stack, such as cad, welding, or Machine Tools
Honestly, this is a GREAT suggestion. Many programs are struggling to get enough qualified mentors.
Thank you for the suggestions all - I had originally thought that taking a community college class would be a violation of the terms of the gap year; however, I’ve looked over the form again and they do allow it. I will also likely be mentoring in addition - I just hoped to compete as I’ve been away from vex for a little bit and wanted to give it a spin again.
