Does anyone else want to build and test new ideas for this years challenge but you cant because the rest of your team doesn’t care and you are behind in school because of worlds? I cant stand it. I have all these ideas i want to try but everywhere I turn I get yelled at for “not focusing” on what i should be doing. I am use to being able to get an idea in my head and going straight for it but since the season ended I haven’t been allowed to experiment. Its gotten to the point that i draw everything in a sketchbook and sneak part to my room and build at Midnight. I cant help that i live and breathe VEX practically and I just have an addiction i guess to solving problems. Has anybody else gone through a similar situation?
Haha my feelings exactly everybody is like let’s relax for a week but I’m like no I wanna build… Except I don’t build at midnight I build at 2am
I get the whole addiction to Vex thing, but it is something you need to be responsible enough to handle. if you’re falling behind in school due to this, then something needs to change. It’s the same situation as if someone neglected school due to playing video games all the time. There are more important things to be doing.
However, the sketch book is a great way to get around this. If you have a great idea, document it, do your homework, then build it.
As tough as it is for me to say, there are more important things than Vex. 
I’m guessing you just got back from Worlds. Take a deep breath. You’ll be okay. It takes a while to decompress.
But make sure you get caught up on your homework before you do much on the next game. Get your homework done then you’ll have plenty of time to sketch and tinker. My rule for my kids is that their school work comes first. Vex is meant to help you make sense of all the things you learn in school. Want to know why that math is important? You need it for making machines. Want to know why it’s relevant to learn another language? learn about other cultures? Walk around Worlds and look all around.
You’ve got plenty of time to get all those good ideas out of your head and into your next design. So don’t worry so much.
Yea worlds was tiring it also put all of us behind on schoolwork, having a bunch of new ideas is nice, I know how you feel but schoolwork is important too! Summer is coming up so we will get a lot of time to try new things during that time just a couple more weeks! Also those sketches will look great in your engineering logbook!
Feeling are not not remain same these have been change with the passage of time.So it very hard to say because up and down are parts of the life…Patience brings power and idea can change your life…
Thanks for the advice. And you could arguably make my notebook the engineering notebook. I am midway through my second sketchbook now.
Do engineering notebook and CAD. That’s what I did when I cannot build robots. But do try to even things out between vex and school. Guanantee graDes before building robots.
If you are enthusiastic and helpful enough, eventually you will be known and respected in this community. And certainly you will learn a lot.

I know exactly how you feel. My team didn’t qualify for worlds, and yet everyone feels like they have time to kill. We are barely meeting over the summer, and won’t even be having our first meeting where we can work for another 3 weeks. I’m going crazy, because next year is my senior year, and I really want to go to Worlds or Nationals to be my last event.
Yea, putting files such as inventor into the engineering notebook impresses the judges because it shows someone actually took the time to do that! By the way I am not the team leader of 675E I am just assistant team leader
