I switched my gear ratio, and I only need 1 set of rubber bands (one on each side of the arm). It still goes up almost instantly.

A lot of factors come in to play here, but mainly the position of the rubber bands and the weight of the arm, so it will be different for everyone. Do whatever works for your robot.
