Hello all, my question is, are all the VEX systems (VEX IQ, VEX Robotics Design System, and VEX Pro) compatible with one another, or are they all stand-alone systems where the parts cannot be intermixed?
MechMan183,
The VEX IQ and VEX EDR (formerly VEX Robotics Design System) systems both share the same pitch (0.50in / 12.7mm hole spacing) and shaft size. You can easily combine mechanical parts (including gears, wheels, structure, etc) between these two platforms, however you will have to use #8-32 or M4 screws to attach VEX IQ parts to VEX EDR metal structure. The VEX IQ and VEX EDR control systems and electronic parts are not compatible with each other in an off-the-shelf configuration.
The VEXpro product line is designed for very large robots (over 100 lb / 50kg). While many parts use hole spacing on a 0.50in / 12.7mm pitch, these parts are much larger and heavier and designed for a much greater level of fabrication by the user. All of the #8-32 screws and hardware from the VEX EDR platform are compatible with the VEXpro product line. The VEX EDR control system is compatible with the electronic components in the VEXpro product line (including the Victor 888 Speed Controller and Spike Relay).
Please refer to the specific competition game manuals for questions regarding the legality of mixed system parts on competition robots.
