Hello. I was wondering if it would be legal to use barrel screws on my bot this year. The screw is made out of steel, just like the vex screws. I can get these barrel screws with an 8-32 threading, just like the vex screws. They are also less than 2.5 inches long, just like all of the vex screws. To me, this makes them legal. Is my opinion correct?
Do they introduce additional functionality ?
The intent of the rule is to allow Teams to purchase their own commodity hardware
without introducing additional functionality not found in standard VEX equipment. It is
up to inspectors to determine whether the non-VEX hardware has introduced additional
functionality or not.

No, our team likes to keep all of our bots less than 17.5" cubed just to make sure that they will always pass a size check (even when the sizing tool is bent). With a normal nut and bolt, the robot is still within 18" cubed but not with in our teams 17.5" cubed goal. These barrel screws would also enhance the beauty of the robot. The barrel screws do not have any other additional functionality other than what is listed above.
