Are cones dishwasher safe?

On our team, we call the cones ice cream cones and someone had the idea that after worlds we should have a party and eat ice cream out of the cones. The only worry was that they would get gross after awhile cause robots and all so we’d have to clean them. Someone brought up the concern of the melting in a dishwasher and then someone else told us to ask the forum so here I am.

I don’t know the exact answer but I don’t think that they are dishwasher safe.
Also I don’t think that the cones were designed to be dishwasher safe or ice cream safe so I would suggest not trying

Cones are polypropylene (see material types). According to this, polyproylene is safe for the top rack of a dishwasher.

So, according to these sources, yes. But, better safe than sorry.

I’m getting ready to do dishes this morning so I’ll throw in a cone and post pictures.

Edit: Top and bottom rack was fine, they had a little standing water in the groves but they are solid.

Only one way to find out.
WAIT… this means there CAN be water in vex!

Omg not this again!

Polypropylene is also food safe (from this %between% website) and should be fine in the dishwasher, my lunch box is polypropylene and that’s put in the dishwasher most days. The cones might discolour slightly though.

Also how big are those ice-cream scoops going to have to be to go in the cones.

Many small scoops are better than one big scoop.

While the plastic is food safe, we would still advise against eating directly out of them.

If you still choose to do so, we’d recommend creating some sort of barrier between the cone and the food. (i.e. ziploc bags, etc.)

I bet that’s a sentence you never expected to write…

Liability causes you to do thing you never thought you would do.

Introducing the all new Vex Robotics Culinary set!

(May or may not include a water cup)

Motto: please, dont set it down.

I doubt they would have any liability if anything were to happen, but of course lawyers like their clients to play it safe. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s what I meant

You could always hand wash them with a sponge.

During a team pizza party we ran it of cups so I used a cone as a cup for soda :stuck_out_tongue: it was fine after going through the dishwasher but I’d definitely recommend washing them well before using them for food
