How effective do you think this would be? I’m actually about halfway done with one right now, with a transmission that switches between them. Any predictions on how well it will work?
Decent in game matches. Not the best option for skills. By the end of the year, nearly half of Indiana’s state championship spots will come through skills. Two of my teams have front dumpers and they can’t reach the skills scores that the backwards ones do. That being said, there are a few teams in Indiana who have impressed with frontwards dumper designs(1483A; They have won their last three tournaments).
My team’s old robot did that in Autonomous way back in November-December. It only worked for cubes and not even that well, though. We only even did it in auton. We ditched the idea for better far zone back dumping.
Indeed. This design is great, because you can dump forwards AND backwards, while most robots can only do one or the other. Our alliance partner in our league finals had a bot like this, and it destroyed everybody there by a landslide, even teams that had put together dumpers and clawbots.
1483A was the back dumber with forks, 1483B is the front dumper with claws. B is much better in matches, but it is junk for skills scores. Both have qualified for State and Nationals with the same builder, programmer, driver, and coach. We are planning to bring the second design as A, as the original is in disrepair at the moment. If we are able to dedicate the resources to getting A up and running again, then we hope to bring both to state, however we only have one driver who is able to drive it well.
Also, to make identification easier (because our organization is a mess) the back dumper was built as A but is will be considered B from now on. It is called Atlas. The front dumber which was built as C and has competed exclusively as B will take the A designation. It is called Prometheus. We also have the original B team robot, which was an expanding conveyor, which has been scrapped for parts. It was called Sisyphus (it tended to get stars nearly to the top, only to have them roll all the way back down). We also now have a C team which is a high power push bot. It is not a competitive robot, just a for fun thing.
