Are zipties good for attaching bearings onto drivebases for screwjoints and axles
Personally I use them for weight saving and that they give all the holes on the bearing flat to work with. I think the weight saving is probably very small but I guess it adds up over time. For axles what is more important in my opinion is to drill out the bearing flat to be the right size because sometimes vex makes them wrong, but only a little bit bigger, maybe 1/16" at most, but only if the axle cannot free spin in the bearing. As for Screwjoints, they really don’t need a bearing flat because they are hard mounted to the frame.
Generally it is fine. just make sure you check up on your drive frequently to make sure the zip ties aren’t broken. and put the head of the zip tie facing inside so that other robots cant hit them. makes the zip tie less likely to snap and break.
Could be wrong here, but this reads like an AI-generated response. Most of the suggested attachment methods are not applicable to V5 and are mentioned twice.
It was, now deleted.
We now have AI slop on the forums.
Hooray!
We get multiple AI posts everyday that get deleted via the review queue, occasionally one gets through.
They’re getting really good at disguising themselves
I could not possibly imagine. What kind of benefit does one recieve from using AI to generate responses to VEX Forum of all things? It is not as if this forum had any political or monetary incentives…
As for attaching bearings, I used the ziptie method before and also made two of my sister teams use it, my conclusion is that it’s very convenient and very nice, not only for weight saving but also saves you the effort of having to replace a nut and bolt that are oriented inconveniently (think a screw with the head blocked by another c-channel). Sometimes it breaks, so you do gotta be careful. All in all it saves weight but also is convenient for maintenance.
Who is using AI to post responses?
Honestly probably in an effort to gian the fabled new user of the month or regular
most AI posts are from random spam bots, rather than active users on the forum.
But that’s probably enough AI bot talk for a thread about using Zip Ties to mount bearings.
Well lets get this thread back on its tracks, we used tiptoes for our worlds bot:
sorry its a bit hard to see since we have black paint with black tiptoes but if you look closely you can see them. what you want to do is to make sure the tiptoes are vertical. this is important because it will give you a better distribution of pressure on the bearing which will make it not tilt and center better. for our nationals bot we had it horizontaly, while it worked fine, I still recommend putting it vertically like in this picutre.
NOTE:
for the bearings on the top holes you have to use 4 zipties total and 2 for each bearing holes on the sides. for the bearings in the middle of the c chan, make sure to wrap your zip tie around the bearing from the top and bottom holes of the c chan and NOT go inside the bearing holes.
PS my stupid auto correct keeps making the word zip tie into tip toes. I have no clue why, so please if you see tiptoes I tried to write zipties.
they probably just don’t know what to say and just AI generated it just cuz its easier
…
These feels like a good time to say we need the memes forum back
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, that’s a no from me, dawg.
I miss not being able to edit posts, but I don’t lament some of the chatty post strings that happened.
guys can we PLEASE get this thread back on topic
