Is it legal to screw a standoff to the top threaded part of a pneumatic piston? This would be accomplished by cutting a standoff until it is solid, then use a dye to make a new, smaller thread. You could then thread the standoff on to the piston just like a nut. I did not find any rule against this… but i just want to make sure.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/20/de6yha8a.jpg
I’d say it’s legal. You’re still only using VEX parts. I’ve tapped axles before and they were legal, and this isn’t far off.
EDIT: Off topic, but is that a pneumatic low hang I see?
Thank you!
Maybe…
we did this at the uk nationals, and nothing was said.
This is unofficial advice, obviously, but yeah this is fine. It’s perfectly legal to modify structural components by removing material (drilling, cutting, threading, etc). You can attach things to pistons however you like as long as you don’t modify the piston or use any illegal materials (like tape or glue).
I would be careful, though - doing this will allow the standoff to exert a torque on the piston rod, and bent piston rods are a real pain.
