I have been looking at the Linear Motion Kit and was wondering how you recommend I install a gear directly onto a servo, and then use that in turn to drive the pinion gear. What geometric parameters should I be looking for in each gear?
Also, what are the holes on the Rack Brackets designed to interface with?
The linear motion kit was designed from the ground up to be used with the VEX rack gears. The linear motion kit comes with (2X) Rack Gearbox Brackets that can be used to mount a VEX motor as shown in the image below.
All VEX EDR gears can be connected to a 393 motor (http://www.vexrobotics.com/276-2177.html) using drive shafts ([http://www.vexrobotics.com/shafts.html).
The holes on the “back” of the rack gear will interface with any VEX EDR metal.
