Audience Overlay Display Camera

I would like to create an audience display with overlay but I don’t have a good, cheap camera. I wanted to just ask what you guys use (or suggest). I want something cheap & basic. it doesn’t need a mic just maybe a clip to clip onto the field.

What do you guys use? Thanks.

(also i didn’t know which category to place this in as I am not an EP, so sorry if this is incorrectly categorized.)

This paper describes our Livestream setup, which you can see on our YouTube channel “vex virus 3547”

We started out small with some cheap GoPro cameras and continued to expand and improve until we got a decent livestream. Every season, we are able to add a little bit more to the system, currently upgrading all of our cameras to PTZ, and adding a second computer workstation to live stream a dual event.

This may not be what you are looking for, since you use the words “good” and “cheap” in the same sentence, and that’s really hard to do. The equipment we use is “good and economical,” but not particularly cheap. YMMV

Sorry; to clarify: decent and cheap. We aren’t live streaming we just want something that when people in a different room see it, it doesn’t look like we borrowed a camera from 1989.

Thanks so much, I’ll take a look!

I am planning a video of my live set up. I’ll post it here when it’s ready. I’ve been using webcams with 90 degree angle, with usb extenders which are fragile. Also thinking of POE cameras and install a POE network card in my desktop.

My recent stream was done on my cell phone data plan (mobile hotspot) that kept disconnecting while capturing Worlds opening and closing ceremony.

I would recommend a GoPro. I bought one for $50 used to record matches and they are pretty amazing for the price. They are also very durable.

As for resolution, my GoPro is the hero 4 silver so it can do 1080p 60 or 1440p 30.
Not gonna beat that at this price point.

It doesn’t need to be the hero 4 silver, Id recommend going on Facebook marketplace and seeing what’s offered locally. That’s where you’ll find the best deal (and how I got mine).
