Autonomous balls getting in the way

Hey,
When we are doing autonomous coding, we are running into a problem that when we position our robot, there may be balls in the place where we are supposed to be positioning it. Also, there may be a ball right in front of a cube. We wanted to know if it is against the rules to take those specific balls out of the field during the run if they are in the starting position zones/obstructing it. Keep in mind this is limited to 0-2 balls every run.
Our states is on Saturday, so we would really appreciate an early response. Thanks in advance!

Yes, you are allowed to move balls out of the starting positions (and placed in non-scoring positions) during robot reset in autonomous. Per RSC5.c. (https://content.vexrobotics.com/docs/viqc-squared-away/GameManual20190816.pdf)

Any Game Object in the Starting Position may be moved out of the Starting Position and gently placed into a non-Scored position by the Team.

As @spaghetti_code quoted, yes, you can remove the balls from the starting position, but note that you should not remove them from the field altogether. You should move them to a non-scored location somewhere else on the field.

Thank you so much! I had another question,
We accidentally placed our robot on top of a ball that was in the starting position, and it skidded and bounced into a cube. Would that be a penalty? Also, when there is a ball that we know before we reset the robot that we know will hinder the run, can we move it out of the field, or to a non scoring position? Last one I promise… If we place a ball in a non scoring position and it rolls and hits something else like a ball or something, will we get penalized for it?
Again thank you for the reply, it really helped us

Hi, these questions are better suited for the official Q&A forum (Q&A: VIQC 2019-2020: Squared Away : Robot Events) where you can get official ruling on your questions. What we’ve provided have been things that are defined in the official game manual.

Also, when there is a ball that we know before we reset the robot that we know will hinder the run, can we move it out of the field, or to a non scoring position?

I think the allowance to move game objects to non-scored positions are only for those elements that are inside the starting positions when you reset the robot. You are not allowed to touch or move any other game element, such as a ball not inside the starting position but that will be in the path of the robot, when you reset your robot.

Oh ok I will post it in the official one. Side note, can we step in the field when retrieving the robot so we can reset it?

Unless you are really unclear of the rules in the game manual, there is no need to re-ask the question that @spaghetti_code answered for you. Just replace Spagheticode’s words ā€œI thinkā€ with the words ā€œThe game manual says in RSC5 section cā€

As for a couple of your other questions, the Skills referee will be making calls about when you are not careful placing balls. Excessive carelessness will greatly annoy the referee…and if you appeared to be doing it deliberately to gain an advantage, the referee would probably ask you to leave the field, per G3. The ball you mentioned that bounced into a cube by your actions would obviously not be scored. You question about walking in the field was answered in the other post you made.
