This is kind of a moral question?so let’s say in the qualifying matches and you get a not so great team in the qualifying matches.Your team can score 100 pts in driving skills, but that other team has clawbot at the state tournament. Is it nice to say"Dont do nothing we got it".Am in being mean? Am I’m running the competition for the other team by telling dont move at all?
I’m not entirely sure about how to approach this, but I would guess you could ask them about this, but if they want to do something, then respect them and let them. If they agree, then go ahead.
I would of just said something like get one blue cube accross the feild, just something to help you out, communaction is key with all alliances not just good ones. With good communaction they could still help you and then get out of your way allowing you to score even more points now that you dont have to worry about a cube. In VRC If there is a push bot with no stacking ability at all I normally tell them to annoy the oppsite alliance. Basicly overall, allways try to involve even the worst of teams into the game, no one wants to be in a comp their first year and not get to do anything becuase the other teams can do it themselfs
It doesn’t have to be a cube. Maybe they could help gather balls, or something along the lines of that. Something simple that makes them feel included.
I totally understand where your coming from. My son has grown up from this experience. At first he told the team to just stay there and not to move. Afterwards I explained to him a lot of what ifs like what if a team told you to do that. That being said we have had teams that did do nothing because they wanted a high score but that was agreed by the two teams. But most of the time we get them to do the one green or move a color cube.
This is for Vex IQ… only 2 teams on the field at a time and they work collaboratively for a joint score
@ dewneyyy I regularly observe the “better” team not score what they claim they could. What would you do/say to a team if you told them to just sit and not do anything, and then your team unexpectedly failed to perform?
It’s a slippery slope. My kids can score 100 by themselves but when you add another robot turning around and stuff you cant rely on that. At our state we missed a match and were paired with lower ranked teams but we ended up in 4th. Your team just has to push through with the good or bad.
yeah i was thinking about that what if we miss green platform.I remember a a tournament in January of this year,We was paired with one of our sister teams we could easily score 100-106 points that would just be enough to win finals, but i messed up on grabbing the cube and was not able to score .
Go to qualification 37 middle school. White bot was clearly able to move, they were either told not to move or chose not to move.
Something about this just doesn’t seem right…
That team was GMR, one of the top teams in the world and have been to worlds every year. They almost won it last year. I wouldn’t think they would ask their alliance partner not to do anything and just get out of their way.
I think they told, shouldn’t the other team would tried fixing their bot they even moved to the left to have space for GMR,I dont know why it doesnt look like they had a bad robot.
Design doesn’t take account match performance. It’s purely on notebook and interview. Only Excellence takes qualification match rankings into account in addition to other factors.
I’ve been in that situation loads of times. Whichever way it goes the important thing is to respect their decision. You will come across teams who will refuse to go along with the higher point strategy in favor of them being more involved and when that happens you have to remember that the spirit of IQ is teamwork, 2 teams working together to score as many points as possible. At the same time when you’re a competitive team it’s hard because we all want to do great and do our very best in each and every match. It is absolutely important to bring up whatever strategy you have for them in the most polite way possible, without making them feel bad. The takeaway is to remember that while IQ is a competition, it is also collaboration between you and your partner and whatever you both decide to do should be agreed upon by both teams.
There is no defense in VEXIQ, both teams try to score as many points as possible together. You are talking about VRC, not what the original poster was talking about.
