The zip ties that come with the kit, do not seem to want to tighten up around the batteries. The batteries want to hang loose and I realize the catch on the ties is supposed to make contact with the teeth in the tie. Is there anyway to modify these ties so that they will hold the battery more secure?
I would use the battery clips instead:
Thank you!
I agree with using the battery clip. They are much eaiser than using zip ties. The batteries stay in very well and are easy to take out.
I’d recommend using rubber bands. Take two and wrap them around the battery and whatever metal it rests on. Super cheap and effective.
we already have velcro on our battries, so we just attach some to the robot as well, easy and effective
We used to use velcro, but now we just have attach the batteries with a rubber band.
There are several great ways to attach your batteries, as is demonstrated by the various suggestions above. The main point, I think, is that zip ties are probably not a great way to attach batteries. Zip ties are not really that reusable and you will need to take the batteries off of your bot regularly.
Whether you use rubber bands, battery clips, velcro strips, velcro straps, some sort of box you make from Vex metal, or some other solution you come up with on your own, just make sure of a couple of things. You want the batteries secure and want to be able to exchange the batteries easily. By the way, my son’s teams have done all of the above and all work well.
