I’m looking to incorporate pneumatics on my new robot, but I’m finding the Inventor’s Guide a little too concise for some of the questions I have.

What’s the best sort of compression system to use? I’ve tried with an air compressor with a bicycle pump fitting, but unscrewing the fitting after filling doesn’t close the intake valve soon enough, so the air just escapes. Is a bicycle foot pump acceptable?

What’s your preferred method for mounting the piston cylinder ends?
