Bent Brand New Axels

A 4 pack of 12inch axels just arrived we went to put them on are robot and while spinning the gears with are hand we felt something wrong. We spent 15-30minutes trying to fix it until we took out the axel and test where flipped it on floors then pushed down the center and I was able to push it down I test this on 3 different surfaces and it showed all 4 brand new axels were bent what should we do?

welp, first how were you using them? For a catapult or what?

Like I said they are brand new out of the package

yes, but to notice the bend you say you put them on the robot. Im curious what that function was.

Ask vex support. They are very helpful and can help you if there’s anything wrong with shipping or with your robotics parts. Had a glitch with my gen 2 brain, ask vex support, sent us back a new one.

It was for a intake and was never used only hand rolled by hand for less than 5 turns

In response to this, I believe your rubber bands may have been quite uneven, and caused the axle to bend. They could have also been accidentally bent.

All 4 were out of the box and it’s not a rubber band intake to cause it 3 were never even out into the robot and all 4 had a slight bend

Ask vex support. They wil probably replace it. For example one time we bought some HS shafts and by some awful twist of luck they bag was open and the axels slid out of the bag and out of the shipping box. so we literally received an empty HS axel bag inside of a cardboard box. we called them and they shipped us some new ones

No, no, let’s have a dozen posts here about all the possible ways it could be the robot. Have you considered that doing double face to face gears may cause shaft bending with the focused axial load?

And we haven’t even started on the software issues. Have you tried Pros? There is an API that specifically codes around bent axles.

No idea why, on clearly broken hardware, people don’t want to call VEX support.

We will try thank you!

Why not just straighten them ?

I know right! It’s so odd that the obvious is to call yet they don’t.

Last year, we ordered a pack of 12" and only 2 of them are straight out of bag. We use them to go across 11 inch frame. 3 out of 5 will wobble when spin. Call support seems to be a way to get a replacement pack. But we only need 2 so we didn’t call support. Since this is common issue, I feel a new pack might still have the same problem.
