Best way to calculate the expansion rules

So the expansion rules has been cleared up, there is a video which discusses it.

If you watch the video, there is a variety of possibilities regarding the expansion. and honestly I believe it is kind or weird.

If anyone has a great way to measure and inspect these robots well, im all ears.

Where did you find the new expansion rules? The QnA doesn’t have any answers.

Video cites Robot Inspection Checklist (released in RECF Library) and Head Referee training course - both released yesterday.

Under the new inspection sheet.

Please watch the beginning of the video.

I also agree that 18" cube to start and point-to-point expansion is the easiest on volunteers.

The rule isn’t even official. Let’s wait until they release it in the game manual before we get too upset.

A member of the GDC posted on discord that the rules will be updated to match the inspection sheet in the June 5th manual update.

Can you elaborate on what the rules are, I don’t have access to YouTube.

“In a way” suggests that there are several ways to make it so that they match.

And I’m pretty certain that they will at least try to make the inspection process a little easier for this rule. Remember that the GDC just made a rule to limit plastic with the intention of making inspection easier. Why would they turn around and make a rule that’s absolutely horrible to enforce?

Furthermore, including the full rule in the inspection checklist just doesn’t seem practical IMO. It’s very possible that the rule will have much-needed details.

But, I mean, I respect your opinion. I’ll just be waiting for more clarification, myself.

I think there’s no limit on height expansion but the rest there is…like 22 inch or smth?

What you think could have been answered by reading the Game Manual.

The expansion rules as they stand right now are really weird. if you were to have a mechanum bot that never turned and expanded to the 22x22 inches, and another team would push you, then you would be out of bounds. This is the same with robots that expand even the slightest bit if they can rotate. Similarly, the hero bot isn’t in bounds if the rule stands as it is.

All of this, along with inspection being impossible, is why the GDC is updating the rule.

They did last time. Last year they made it quite clear that the expansion could only be in 1 direction even in the inspection checklist.

Cause the GDC often misses things. They published the game manual with what appears to be the wrong expansion rule. They’ve done plenty of things before without thinking of ALL the consequences in the past. (I could give plenty of examples).

no…
There is nothing saying the expansion space doesn’t move or rotate with the robot.

From SG2

This limit refers to the horizontal distance measured between any two points of the Robot, including diagonals, relative to the playing Field (i.e., it does not rotate with the Robot).

I mean, I respect your opinion. But, I choose to give the GDC a break myself.

That’s referring to tipping, not rotating. It just means the footprint of the robot has to fit in a 22x22-inch square at any given moment.
