Brain not connecting to a Computer(MacBook Air)

My teammate uses a MacBook Air to program and this is the first time that they tried to download their code to a V5 Brain using Vex Pro. When she tries to download her code the brain doesn’t show that it is connected and it is grayed out. My computer(which is also a MacBook Air) works.

There is a big difference in our computers though, my teammate has the 2019 edition while I have the 2016 edition. The 2019 edition doesn’t have a USB Port, so I used an adapter then plugged the USB into it. The adapter is new, so I don’t think it has a short in it or anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Did you resolve this isuue? I am also not able to connect to the brain with newer laptop.
Thank you

If I remember correctly, I switched the adapter and USB cord and then it worked. I think the USB cord was only working to charge things not to transfer data.
