Budget computer for cad

What is the best budget computer for vex iq cad that will run smoothly

First off how much is your budget and second Chromebook.

I would suggest a desktop, not a laptop. Micro Center has amazing deals to get really good performant computers for their price:

I’ve had great luck buying refurbished computers from here https://discountelectronics.com/

While the world seems happy with Chromebooks, I seem to end up in locations that have poor wifi service / and or a network I can’t get access to (ie schools). That ends up being a non starter for me.

For VIQ cad, I recommend LDCAD.

The rest of the thread has discussions about CAD packages.

The performance requirements for LDRAW is not as much as some of the CAD packages so you have a bigger range. But I’d get a computer with an SSD on it for the speed.

I have some of these

the only drawback is the wonky 1366 x 768 display size. But they are small and easy to travel with. They have an HDMI port so you can put your drawings up on a bigger display.

My current robot laptop is this:

The 15" touch screen, ability to go Laptop or Tablet, ports and decent battery life are all winners. It runs Win10, which makes me happy. Only downside for you is the 1920x1080 resolution, but for my eyes, it’s just fine.

I’ve had great luck with both Lenovo and Dell Laptops, they both have large power connectors. HP power are very tiny and I’ve snapped off a few. (Roboteers tripping over power cords).

Good luck!

I thought it had to be a laptop or pc not a chrome ?

Oh then any Think Pad that is in your budget. They are underrated and are super reliable. It works well with cad and can hold many files. That’s my recommendation but you choose whatever you want.

If we want to completely be as inexpensive as possible, ebay has a lot of impressive computers for their price:

You should definitely consider a desktop for not only power to price efficiency, but also upgradability reasons. I would definitely consider a graphics card as a requirement (GTX 1060 or faster).

But if it absolutely breaks the bank and you believe that you don’t need a graphics card, you can go on ebay and buy a computer that just gets the job done for like $70:

Do you have any CAD websites that are for Chromebook and are free also has a full vex IQ library?

Free, runs on Chromebook, CAD= Onshape
Make an account, then search up full vex iq parts list and add that to your projects and build on from there. Also it is very easy to use and rarely crashes.

The only thing is that I cant find any vex IQ pieces well not all of them

Yes I understand that but what I do is when I want to insert the parts I just search up vex iq library and use the public search. It does take some time to learn but when you do it’s super easy. Also if you scroll far enough you’ll find the parts eventually.
