Buying Parts for HS Team

Hello.

I was thinking of buying 2 packs of the 8 pack 48 tooth gears and 2 sets of 3.25 omni wheels. Looking at the price, it’s $116.78 USD which is way too much. Our mentor can’t take out money to be able to buy these because of the price, and i wouldn’t think we would be able to get them.

How would I get these at a lower price? Shipping is a ton, about $32.62.

you can’t. at least any third party suppliers that might have it cheaper no longer operate in the US. However, you could buy from another team or simply borrow.

Not sure what you are doing, I got $103 with $18 in ground shipping. Do you have some other items in your cart?

There is no other source besides VEX for new parts. Their shipping policy (you pay for a minimum 1lb FedEx box discourages small orders. You can use your own UPS or FedEx account and save a few dollars, buy you’ll still pay for a minimum of 1lb box. Everyone gets too used to amazon.com “free” shipping, but if you order enough $500-1000, a typical order for a large organization, shipping ends up about 10% of the order, which is typical for regular business.

To potentially find “used” parts at a lower price, you can check ebay, or have your mentor/coach ask on the facebook group “VEX world coaches association” to see if any teams there are willing to sell. (Mentors/coaches can send messages in the facebook group, which you can’t do here).

On the side, it sounds like your team/organization needs to work on finding some sponsors so you’ll have money to purchase parts.
