Scoring questions. Here are some scenarios that referees may encounter. How should the following be scored:
A group of balls is in motion at the buzzer. There are already many balls in the goal.
Balls are in mid-air at the buzzer.
Balls are in motion, but are in contact with the robot.
Balls are in motion, some are in mid-air, some are in contact with the robot.
While attempting to score at the buzzer a robot tips over touching the goal.
A. Robot touches the goal before the buzzer, balls are touching robot when robot touches goal, balls continue motion into goal.
B. Robot touches the goal, after the balls have scored, but before the buzzer. (consider score of alliance partner)
C. Robot is in motion at the buzzer, but does not touch the goal until after the buzzer.
Quals or finals?
I. This is a qualification match. Does each team get the same score?
II. This is a finals match. Does each team get the same score?
In all scenarios these Balls should count as Scored, provided they end up in a Scored position. Let’s look at <G8>
Thus, referees should wait for all objects to come to rest before tallying the score. However, they should disregard any scoring that takes place after the match as a result of a robot continuing to drive past the buzzer.
Robots that make contact with a Goal could be punished as per <G11>. <G8> still applies in this case, with all rulings being issued after all objects on the field have come to rest.
Teams disqualified in a Qualifying Match receive 0 points. Their partner would not be affected. If a Team is disqualified in a Finals Match, the entire Alliance receives 0 points.
