I have a question regarding designing a part and what the CAD would need to include.
If the part I was to design would be very electronics based such as a sensor but also had a functioning structure also serving purpose. What would be the extent to detail needed for the part. Would it need to include the a basic “circuit” or would the structure of the part be enough with an animation to show what the part would do when functioning?

The rules of the challenge do not require the contestant to design any required circuitry, so I would say the judges would be understanding if you can describe what the sensor does without having to design it. If the sensor was something common in robots, such as an ultrasonic rangefinder or color detector, the barrier would be lower than if you were, for example, to show an anti-gravity unit. The more “radical” your part, the more I would suggest that you should show the judges that it is possible to build and use in the real world.
