I have a lift Im switching to pneumatics but I wanted to keep the motor for extra torque. It wouldn’t be powered and Im wondering if they would count it as a extra motor.
so it is part of your mechanism, it provides functionality? Why would you think this is permitted? What rules specifically can you point to that allows this in Game Manual?
Do read the manual on what is allowed and what is not allowed.
And for your case, what is counted as a motor.
Your question should be under R12.
Just curious, how is the unpowered motor going to provide that extra torque that you wanted?

You may only have 8 11W motors on your robot , or 88W total, it doesn’t matter if the motor is not powered. It is still considered an extra motor if you had 8 other motors you would be at 9 motors which is illegal.
R12 States:
Motors are limited. Robots may use any combination of VEX V5 Smart Motors (11W) (276-4840) and EXP Smart Motors (5.5W) (276-4842), within the following criteria:
- The combined power of all motors (11W & 5.5W) must not exceed 88W.
- V5 Smart Motors, and EXP Smart Motors, connected to Smart Ports, are the only motors that may be used with a V5 Robot Brain. The 3-wire ports may not be used to control motors of any kind.

No. If it is functional, since it exceeds the 88w limit, it would be illegal. Also, can someone explain if the motor has to be connected to the brain? (The rule doesn’t say yes, but kind of infers it by saying “connected to smart ports”)
If it is not functional, it still isn’t allowed since it is banned from being a non-functional decoration.
