Hi if i filmed the game can i use that video to prove something or to prove we didint do somthing iblooked through the manual 3 times and carnt find anywhere about this many thanks
“looking through the game manual” might not find something, but using the search function for “video” will show you Rule T3. Also, punctuation is your friend. This is not the discord with your friends, but rather a forum where students, adults, mentors, coaches, VEX and RECF people all participate.
It seems you didn’t look particularly thoroughly. Try using the search function next time.
Have one last browse of that game manual.
No, I don’t know exactly where the rule is but I know that you are not allowed to use recordings (or even the event livestream) for proving anything to the refs.
As the others have done, I would encourage OP to continue their search. If you are going to provide an answer for OP, that’s OK but I like the “teach to fish” approach for RTM questions.
If you are going to provide an answer, take the time to actually find the rule and copy and paste the exact wording. Paraphrasing can cause trouble. They have a VERY handy web version now… VRC Over Under Game Manual - VEX Robotics
Thanks everyone, im on my phone so i couldn’t search on the manual but i did find it. Thanks again
Pro-tip - search works on most modern “smart” phones, unless you are a boomer like me with a flip phone voice only.
Download VRC Hub app, you will have access to the manual and search app, unless you are using a Motorola StarTac from 1995…
As others have said the manual says no video review. To add to that once a head ref has made a ruling there is no going back. There is no further review, no appeals process.
Refs dont always get it right. All you can do is move on.
I had it downloaded as a pdf file. Didint realise there was an app thanks
This is a good point and I’ll add to it.
The refs are watching the whole field, tracking 4 bots and striving to be unbiased. Any given team is laser focused on their one bot and what is happening to it and are decidedly biased. It is understandable if a ref misses the first moments of a potential hold or disagrees with a team that a hold is even taking place.
On holds in particular, teams often feel that they are being held at any moment when they cannot move in their desired direction – which is definitively not a hold (RTM.) Conversely teams playing aggressive defense think their hold count ends when they back away 18" for 3 seconds – again wrong.
Be 100% certain about how a rule actually works before debating an incident with the ref, and understand the limitations of their ability to see the whole field.
To add a bit more:
Teams at the field are allowed to talk during the match. If you think that an infraction is happening, call it out. “Holding” or “Blue is in our goal!” Draw the ref’s attention to the issue because we may miss it. If every ref at the field missed it then we absolutely can’t enforce it.
Also, when a team calls out the issue, it usually self corrects. If a team only has a defensive strategy but the other teams keep calling them out, they tend to back off.
No. Read the manual. also if this were allowed match cycle times would be like 30minutes since every single team would try to fight every single decision.
This isn’t fully correct. Please review <T3>:
Emphasis mine.
Once a Head Referee has made a ruling, Drive Team Members are permitted to appeal the ruling. It is only after the ruling has been made and any appeals have been addressed by the head referee announcing their final decision that no further appeals are permitted.
It is important to use the correct terminology and I did not. It should have said once a ref has made a final decision there is no further review or appeal. That’s what I meant to say.
