Can someon explain how worlds spots are given out

(my brother does vex) (also some information on this might be wrong this is just what i know) today at the ohio middle school state competition his team didn’t qualify but there are 3 teams from ohio that qualified one triple qualified one double qualified and one qualified once (ohio middle school teams get 5 qualifications to worlds and one team qualified at the kalahari classic) i need to know how the extra spots are given to the top skills at the state competition, the top skills in ohio, or where ever else they would go.

Ok, pretty straight forward - signature spots do not impact in any way state spots. So if XXX got TC at a signature event, it is not accounted for at States. States has a fixed number of spots. If there is double/triple qualified teem at States, then the next non-qualified team at the state event is given the from their Global Skills Ranking list for middle or high school.

This is all spelled out in the VRC Qualifying Criteria available to all teams on the RECF website.

Those eligible teams will receive an invite on RobotEvents.com and to the email contact for the team. Beware of contacts who end up putting their invite in spam mailbox, or have no clue what it means (school business office)… SO check RobotEvents.com website

Good luck!

Just to clarify would the spots go to only teams from the competition from their overall skills scores or their skills scores at the competition?

The invites would go to the next eligible team on the Global Ranking list - I do not believe the team has to have competed in the event.

This VRC Qualifying Criteria that you need to read.

If you have specific questions about that event, contact the EP and/or RECF RSM.

good luck!

The global ranking for that region.

correct - vs ranking from the event.

So this is actually something you can check for yourself. It appears that only three spots go to worlds from the event. If that is true, then 42111W double qualified and 42111N regular qualified.

Check the skills list for your region, program and level:
https://www.robotevents.com/robot-competitions/vex-robotics-competition/standings/skills

Rank Score Programming Skills Driver Skills Highest Programming Skills Highest Driver Skills Team Number Team Name Organization Country
1 32 10 22 10 22 42111N Wall-E Elyria Robotics - Middle School United States
2 31 10 21 10 23 42111P Richard Elyria Robotics - Middle School United States
3 30 11 19 11 21 42111W Argos Elyria Robotics - Middle School United States
4 28 10 18 10 18 8609A Chronus Robotics Longfellow Middle School United States
5 27 7 20 9 20 4810C CU@Worlds North Union Middle School United States

So 42111P would get the spot from the skills list, as the #1 seed already qualified at the tournament.

Naturally, there are other factors that I am sure I’m missing as I’m only giving this a glance, but that’s about how it works out.

Sorry for my brief response earlier. Not too helpful. I tend to do that.

Ohio Middle does only have 3 qualifying spots:

Same in FL. I had a team win Design and skills for Middle VRC… And didn’t go to WORLDS… That’s the way it is!

I have my kids set sights on performing well for judged and performance awards. Usually it ends well and Robot Skills are a great benchmark for teams to see their growth.
