Can we glue two small pieces of polycarbonate?

My team would like to glue two pieces of polycarbonate to make front and back sleds for the robot. The rule I find most relevant is rule VUR9.

My question: do you think it’s legal to glue two pieces of polycarbonate together to make it stronger?

Thanks

Reference:

Teams may use commercially available fastener hardware on their Robot. Examples include (but are not limited to):

  • Screws, nuts, rivets
  • Hinges, pins, rod ends, threaded rods, hose clamps
  • Ancillary fastener accessories, such as washers or spacers
  • Adhesives such as epoxy, glue, or tape (when used to join together two parts)

Are you on a VEXU (college) or VRC (Middle/High School) team? VEXU rules are only relevant for the VEXU competition.

This will most likely get your robot banned because they will consider both pieces as one piece with a larger thickness than allowed.

What is usually done is to drill both pieces of polycarbonate and screw them together using a spacer or a washer in between, this allows their use to be legal and count as independent pieces.

It should be noted that if you use this method, although the limitations of polycarbonate area to use are not very large with each layer you are doubling the area of the same.

The VUR9 applies only to robots competing in VEXU.

For VRC the Game Manual is clear about permitted use of Hot Glue for wire management.

Please consult the Robot rules section only for what is permitted.
